Working Meeting with the Mayor of Atzitzintla

Last Friday, May 9, the National Institute of Astrophysics, Optics, and Electronics (INAOE), a center of the Secretariat of Science, Humanities, Technology, and Innovation (Secihti), received a visit from the Mayor of Atzitzintla, Puebla, Eduardo Velázquez Medina.

The mayor of the aforementioned municipality, where the Alfonso Serrano Large Millimeter Telescope (GTM) and HAWC observatories are located, was received by Dr. Julián David Sánchez de la Llave, Director General of INAOE, during a working meeting also attended by Juan Vega Velázquez, private secretary; Patricia Medina Acevedo, treasurer; and Cristian Aldo Sandoval Suárez, city comptroller.

Representing INAOE were Dr. Claudia Feregrino Uribe, in charge of the Research Directorate and the Technological Development Directorate; Dr. David Hughes, director of the GTM; José Ramón Valdés, Astrophysics Coordinator; and José Luis Hernández Rebollar, a technology engineer assigned to the GTM; and Janina Nava Ariza, M.C., from the Office of Institutional Liaison and Planning.
During the meeting, several topics of mutual interest were discussed, such as participation in future outreach activities. Dr. Claudia Feregrino gave the institutional presentation.

INAOE's relationship with Atzitzintla has been very cordial over the years, but it has deepened in recent months. Evidence of this was the joint organization of a scientific vocations fair held on November 29, 2024. This year, the event will be held again on June 4.
Likewise, INAOE will participate in the municipality's next patron saint fair, which will take place from June 11 to 15, 2025. The parties reiterated their commitment to working together for the benefit of the municipality.
To end the workday, the visitors were welcomed by Dr. José Ramón Valdés in the Camera Schmidt telescope.
