Spring Workshop in Biomedical Sciences 

Santa María Tonantzintla, Puebla, March 23, 2023. With the assistance of postgraduate students and the participation of researchers from Mexico, Colombia and Venezuela, it is being carried out these days at the National Institute of Astrophysics, Optics and Electronics (INAOE) the Spring Workshop in Biomedical Sciences.

The event, which began yesterday in a hybrid format, is organized by the OPTICA, SPIE and IEEE student chapters at INAOE. The objective is to present scientific and technological research projects that unite Optics and medicine.
Among the topics covered in the workshop are the applications of biophotonics in medical sciences and dentistry; studies of photodynamic therapy in breast cancer; Raman spectroscopy and machine learning applications in the detection of chronic-degenerative diseases; acquisition and processing of EEG signals; fundamentals and applications of fuzzy systems; analysis of biomedical signals by means of variable embedding techniques; optical irradiation in cell cultures, and the applications, advantages and disadvantages of artificial intelligence, among others.

Yesterday, Wednesday March 22, the program consisted of presentations by Dr. Aarón Muñoz Morales, researcher at the University of Carabobo, Venezuela; the MV Jeny Moreno Echezuria, from the Central University of Venezuela; Dr. José Miguel Duarte Cedeño and Dr. Roba Izzedin, from the University of Carabobo. Today, the presentations were given by doctors Teresita Spezzia and Raquel Díaz and doctors Jorge Castro and Carlos Alberto Reyes, from INAOE. Dr. Alina Santillán, from UPAEP, also gave the lecture.
The workshop will conclude tomorrow with lectures by Dr. Danielle Ochoa Arbeláez, from the Universidad del Valle, Colombia; M. E. Juan P. Murillo, from the Metropolitan Technological Institute of Medellín; M. C. Leslie Martínez, from the University of Carabobo; M.I.F. Walter Serna, from the Pedagogical University of Pereira, Colombia; Eng. Emmanuel López Riviello, from the Technological Institute of Veracruz, and Dr. José Ángel Arias Cruz, from BUAP.
