INAOE Astrophysics Research Summer 2022 (VIAI 2022)

Santa María Tonantzintla, Puebla, June 22nd, 2022. The National Institute of Astrophysics, Optics and Electronics (INAOE) receives more than 30 young students from different parts of the country in a face-to-face and hybrid edition of the Summer of Research in Astrophysics ( VIAI 2022), which takes place from June 20th to July 15th.

VIAI 2022 aims to incorporate students into real research in Astrophysics, since they will work on ongoing projects, which will allow them to test the knowledge acquired during their professional preparation.

In an interview, Dr. Olga Vega, INAOE researcher and part of the organizing committee of VIAI 2022, explained that for a month the students will have several activities, among them and the most important is the approach with each of the INAOE researchers, with whom they will develop proposals for the research work that is currently being carried out. At the same time, they will be able to access the INAOE laboratories and workshops to carry out practices.

The projects in which the students will work are: “Exploring the environment of the red Herschel sources”, “Study of the efficiency of star formation in the early Universe”, “Hunting galaxies around BL Lac 3FGL J0909.0+2310” , “Subharmonic Mixer”, “Astrophysical Data Cube Voicing”, to name a few.

The researcher reported that the observational part will be in person and the one-meter Telescope of the National Astrophysical Observatory of Tonantzintla, UNAM, will be used, where the students will be integrated into the research work "Search for giant exoplanets from Tonantzintla" led by Dr. Miguel Chavez Dagostino. As well as the observation work of Dr. Abraham Luna, both INAOE astronomers.

She finally highlighted the importance of this type of event for students and future scientists in the country, as well as the support of INAOE and the faculty of researchers in different areas. Since without them event could not be possible.
