Location

The school will be held in the campus of INAOE in Tonantzintla, Puebla, Mexico, between the 25th of July and the 12th of August 2005. This scenic campus has fully-equipped facilities to host its 300 MSc and PhD students in Astrophysics, Optics, Electronics and Computational Sciences, and a scientific staff of 100 researchers.

Accomodation during the school will be provided within the INAOE campus, and also within the adjacent campus where UNAM operates the Observatorio Astronómico Nacional (OAN) in Tonantzintla. The participants of the ISYA will be able to use the OAN 1-m optical telescope during the school, which has imaging and spectroscopic capabilities.

INAOE campus also houses a historically important Schmidt Camera, which was used in the discovery of Herbig-Haro objects and blue compact galaxies in the mid-20th century. INAOE is also building the 50-m Large Millimetre Telescope (LMT), in the State of Puebla, 100 km from Tonantzintla. The LMT is a world-class facility, scheduled to have first light during 2005. Participants of the school will be able to visit both facilities.
