The Guillermo Haro International Program on Advanced Astrophysical Research has been created to stimulate research in Astrophysics at the Instituto Nacional de Astrofísica Optica y Electrónica (INAOE), Tonantzintla - Puebla, México. The topics for the program are defined each year by an international scientific committee, and the activities supported by the program include a research workshop and a conference on the chosen topics. The program also offers several one-year postdoctoral positions, based at INAOE, working with the team of scientists chosen for the workshop.
There will be two postdoctoral positions for 1997. Positions are open for recent Ph.D.'s in Physics and Astronomy, regardless of nationality. Candidates interested in collaborating with our staff in fields related to The physics of Star-gas interaction, in either theoretical or observational research are encouraged to apply. The start of these positions is to coincide with the annual workshop supported by the program, in July 1997.
INAOE facilities for research and observing projects include access to the Guillermo Haro National Astrophysical Observatory located in Cananea in the state of Sonora, México. The 2.12-m telescope is equipped with a FOSC Focal Reducer for direct imaging and spectroscopic work as well as a Boller & Chivens Spectrograph and an Ebert-Fastie Spectrograph all fitted with CCD detectors. Computing facilities are based on a SUN platform, and a Silicon Graphics Power Challenger System is available for computing projects involving numerical simulations and data reductions.
Applicants should include a curriculum vitae,
list of publications, two letters of recommendation, and a statement of
their research interests and goals. The deadline for applications is the
The applicants selected will be notified in May 15th, 1997.
