Second Caribbean and Central American Astronomy Olympiad

The National Institute for Astrophysics, Optics and Electronics (INAOE), located in Tonantzintla, Puebla, Mexico, invites you to participate in the Second Caribbean and Central American Astronomy Olympiad. Registration can be made on-line http://www.inaoep.mx/olimpiada, according to the following requirements:

  1. College Category.

For Bachelor Science and Engineering students with a maximum age of 23 years that live in Central America and the Caribbean. Tests will be held in two stages and will consist of questions and problems in Astronomy.  The first stage will be an on-line evaluation. The students achieving the 3 highest scores in this first stage will be selected for the next round of the competition. The second stage will take place at INAOE between August 24th and 28th, 2009, and will consist of a written test. 

The prizes for the winners will be awarded from August 24th to 28th at INAOE. The winners will be presented at the institute. The institution will cover the cost of lodging and meals during their stay, but will not cover the cost of travel from their country at the INAOE.

Dates:

  • Last Registration: July 2nd, 2009
  • First test: July 3rd and 4th, 2009
  • Second test (at INAOE):   August 24th 28th, 2009.

Prizes for the winners:
1st Place: The equivalent of Laptop.         
2nd Place: The equivalent of Telescope and Books
3rd Place: The equivalent of Scientific Calculator.
