HOW TO REACH INAOE, Tonantzintla

Route via Mexico City airport

Most international flights come to the international airport Benito Juarez in Mexico City. There are direct bus services, offered by Estrella Roja and/or ADO, from the Mexico City airport to Puebla, with a 30 minute frequency during the day. In Puebla, buses reach a friendly bus terminal named Paseo Destino, where pre-paid taxi service is available. The cost of one-way bus ticket is 320 Mexican pesos. It will take 2 to 2.5 hours to reach Puebla, depending on the traffic on the way.

Your distination for taxi is Tonantzintla or Instituto Nacional de Astrofisica, Optica y Electronica. Our campus is also popularly known as Tonantzintla Observatory or simply INAOE (pronounced as INA-O-E). The taxi ride takes about 30-40 minutes. The cost should be about 120 - 150 Mexican pesos.

Once at the Institute gate, 24 hours guards will provide you with the key to your room.

Route via direct flight to Puebla

You may also fly directly to Puebla from Dallas or Houston, and then take a taxi at Puebla airport to get to INAOE, as explained above. The price should be about 250 - 300 Mexican pesos.

WEATHER INFORMATION

Puebla is located in a valley flanked by volcanoes at the altitude of about 2200 meters above sea level. This results in a significant contrast between midday and midnight temperatures. It is usually warm during the day but the temperature drops after sunset. August lies in the middle of the rainy season, it usually rains in the afternoon and generally it could be pleasant. Nevertheless be prepared for sunny, rainy or cold weather.
